This weekend was a crazy one, and by crazy I mean exhausting, because I am too old to be out of the house for 18 hours straight on a Saturday.
Our tailgate for the GT/UNC game started at 7:30 a.m. We made a pot of coffee, packed the Bailey’s, Jameson, and enough beer to get the entire population of Gibraltar drunk, and headed downtown for the festivities.
After 4 hours of tailgating, we headed to the Georgia Tech football game, where we beat UNC by a touchdown. Special shoutout goes to Stephen Hill’s one-handed catch in the first quarter, because we do not generally pull off passes like that. Dear Stephen Hill, please don’t ditch us for the NFL next year.
Then we headed to Music Midtown, which was shockingly well-run and also meticulously on-time. We walked into Piedmont Park at 5:10 and heard Manchester Orchestra start playing exactly 5 minutes later. I’ve never been to a concert that didn’t start even a little bit late.
There were two stages that you had to go back and forth between, so we wandered between Manchester Orchestra, Young the Giant, The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant, and finally Coldplay. All the bands put on great shows, although I worry for the lead singer of CtE’s mental health. He was nuts.
This was the 4th time I’ve seen Coldplay, and they did not disappoint. They played their new song “Paradise”, which I loooooove, and a great mix of old (“Politik”) and new (“Every Teardrop is a Waterfall”) stuff. They are just really great live. Also, they had fireworks! Everybody loves fireworks.
Coldplay ended their set a little bit early, but by the time we walked to Marta, got in the car, and made the drive home, it was after midnight. Bed never looked so good.
My only complaint about Music Midtown: they needed more porta-potties. Or smaller beers. The lines were SUPER long.
Sunday was hubs’s birthday, and we were super lazy, grabbing breakfast at J. Christopher’s, watching NFL football all day, and then hitting up La Fonda for dinner with two of our best friends. All in all it was a super fantastic weekend. I hope hubs agrees.
